Maezawa, 47, co-founded Start Today, a company that operates the Japanese clothing retail site and Zozo. He shared with the SpaceX audience that he would like to use this space mission to spread the word about art.

He did not say what SpaceX was charging him.

The trip is planned for 2023. He will take between 6 and 8 artists as part of the project he’s calling Dear Moon. Artists who represent different disciplines of architecture and music are then expected to develop a piece of work based on their experiences.

Musk stated:

It’s crucial to try to be a multi-planet civilization, extend our existence beyond Earth, and do it as fast as possible.

Space Brothers

One of Maezawa’s favorite mangas also happens to be Space Brothers (Uchu Kyodai).
