Chinese TikToker Sparks Controversy After Overeating at Japanese Buffet

A Chinese TikToker named 鄧炫瘋 (Deng Xuanfeng), who has about 4.3 million followers, is facing major backlash after a controversial stunt at a seafood buffet in Tokyo. Deng posted a video on April 9, 2025, showing himself loading up plate after plate with nearly all the food at the buffet while saying he wanted to “teach the Japanese a lesson.”

The video shows Deng piling his dishes with expensive items like salmon sashimi, wagyu beef, and king crab, making sure other guests had little to eat. Throughout the clip, he repeatedly used a derogatory term for Japanese people (“鬼子” or “guizi”) while eating loudly and messily, grabbing sashimi with his hands and slurping it straight off the plate.

When restaurant staff approached, Deng acted aggressively, accusing them of telling him to leave. After eating, he slapped his full stomach and laughed at new customers coming in, mocking them about whether they’d have anything left to eat.

How People Reacted

The reaction was swift and harsh. On Japanese social media, people blasted Deng for his rude behavior, calling it “disgusting” and suggesting the restaurant should have charged him extra for the mess and wasted food. Some users questioned whether the surge in Chinese tourists visiting Japan was really a positive thing if this kind of behavior is part of it.

In China, the reaction was mixed but leaned heavily toward embarrassment. While a few praised him as showing a “new way to resist Japan,” most people criticized him, saying he had embarrassed Chinese people around the world and only made things worse for how Chinese tourists are perceived abroad.

About the Restaurant

Interestingly, the restaurant Deng visited is actually owned by a Chinese woman. She came to Japan from Henan Province back in 2002 as an international student, and after years of hard work, she built up a successful restaurant business with 15 locations. The Tokyo buffet that Deng filmed at just opened in January 2024.

The restaurant later told Japanese media that Deng filmed without permission—a big no-no for businesses—and confirmed they would refuse him entry if he ever tried to come back.
