Coca-Cola Coffee Is Now a Thing in Japan

The Japanese are known for their master skills at being punctual, neat and organized, but they are excellent inventors, too. These crazy inventions are not the only ones to be strange. There is such thing as Coca Cola Flavored coffee that was recently released in Japan and the people don’t know what to do with it. Strange or cool? Here is the story.

In Japan, you can find weird stuff, like their wasabi Kit-Kat bars, pork and seaweed donuts, and even ice cream flavors including soy sauce!

The biggest brands are obviously part of this Japanese trend of invention, and the latest deal was with Coca Cola.

They’ve moved into the coffee market! The Japanese have made a weird combination of Coke and coffee! Don’t you secretly want to try it? I know I do.

Waking up and reaching for a cold beverage is unthinkable for some people. But if you think about it, it’s still caffeine. Why not have a cool glass of Coke?

It does seem like a clever combination which will increase the caffeine level.

Apparently, the drink still tastes like coke, but gives a coffee flavored aftertaste in your mouth. Coca-Cola Plus contains 50% extra caffeine per can, which will totally get your juices flowing. But it’s not all bad, as Plus has half the calories as a normal can of Coke, which is great.

This amazingly-odd drink is on sale in vending machines around Japan. People have claimed that it actually smells odd and doesn’t smell like either drink. Disapointed?

Reviews so far have been mixed. I know, I know, totally expected.

“To be frank, it’s not a very delicious aroma,” the Japanese newspaper Shin-Shouhin said in a review, before adding: “I didn’t think it tasted good, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.”

The drink went on sale in March and is trying to get more fiber into people’s diet with its additives. Some people are saying it’s the healthiest Coke they could ever get. The fiber could also reduce fat absorption from food if drunk while eating. It’s even been marketed to the over-4os age group as the first Coke drink that will improve your health!

Another brand in the market to be famous for the weird flavors in Japan is Pepsi. They have also added more fiber in their dietary drinks a few years ago

But some people have said that simply putting a bit fiber in a drink doesn’t make it all that healthy. It’s not going to do any harm, but they think the health benefits are false.

Japan has the world’s largest ageing population so older consumers are driving the growth of their beverage market, led by teas and Cola soft drinks.

“Japanese consumers have high-quality standards and are especially uncompromising when it comes to taste,” Dr David Machiels, product development director at Coca-Cola Asia Pacific, said about the brand new product.“And being an ageing society has made it a unique market where consumers are extremely health-conscious and seek functionality.”

“We chose white as the base color of the packaging so consumers will instantly recognize that it has new features never before seen in a Coca-Cola product,” Dr. Machiels added.

Cola fans out might remember Coca-Cola Blãk that was released in Europe and the USA in 2006. It sadly didn’t last long due to the lack in popularity. Coca-Cola Plus might end up becoming everyone’s new favourite drink in Japan, though.
