Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 Kicks Off with Spirited Away Screenings Across the US

The highly anticipated Studio Ghibli Fest 2024, hosted by film distributors GKIDS and Fathom Events, is set to begin with special screenings of the beloved 2001 anime classic Spirited Away. The Oscar-winning film, directed by renowned animator Hayao Miyazaki, will be shown in select US theaters from April 27th to May 1st.

Fans will have the opportunity to watch Spirited Away in either its original Japanese version with English subtitles or the English dubbed version. Screenings will take place on the following dates and times:

  • Saturday, April 27 at 3:00 PM (Subtitled)
  • Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 PM & 7:00 PM (Dubbed)
  • Monday, April 29 at 7:00 PM (Subtitled)
  • Tuesday, April 30 at 7:00 PM (Dubbed)
  • Wednesday, May 1 at 7:00 PM (Subtitled)

In addition to the feature film, attendees will be treated to exclusive bonus content, including a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the highly anticipated Studio Ghibli theme park in Nagoya, Japan.

Tickets for the Spirited Away screenings can be purchased online through the official Studio Ghibli Fest website (GhibliFest.com), Fathom Events’ website (FathomEvents.com), or at participating theater box offices. However, organizers caution that participating theaters are subject to change.

Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 will continue throughout the year, featuring a total of 14 beloved Ghibli films. Upcoming highlights include:

  • NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind 40th Anniversary (May 19-21)
  • Castle in the Sky (May 20-22)
  • Howl’s Moving Castle 20th Anniversary (Sept 26-Oct 3)
  • Kiki’s Delivery Service 35th Anniversary (Oct 26-30)
  • Pom Poko 30th Anniversary (Nov 24-26)

Spirited Away, which grossed over $395 million worldwide, held the title of Japan’s highest-grossing film for 19 years until it was surpassed by Demon Slayer: Mugen Train in 2020. The film’s enduring popularity and critical acclaim make it a fitting choice to kick off this year’s Studio Ghibli Fest, providing fans both old and new with the chance to experience the magic of Miyazaki’s storytelling on the big screen once again.
